There are several groups and categories of our Singapore Traditional Chinese Medicine TCM Service Care, and they are TCM assessments and treatments of:

  1. Adults Health TCM - Adults medical, neurological (nerve), respiratory (lungs & breathing), gastrointestinal (stomach and gut), urological (bladder), opthalmological (eye), dermatological (skin) and endocrine (hormone) health

  2. Women's Health TCM - TCM has very specific and distinct advantages in treating gynecological disorders.

Our Singapore-registered TCM Chinese physician will assess and factor in disease and syndromes and differential diagnoses before customizing women's health treatment to the individual women for constitution, uterine, ovarian, pelvis, fertility etc.

  3. Orthopedics & Sports Injury TCM - There are two kinds of treatment here, which are either acute (new injuries) or chronic injuries (conditions).

These cover damage or pain in dermal (skin), musculoskeletal (muscle, bone, tendon, joint, ligament), vascular (vein and arteries), visceral and meridional injuries, be it due to by external forces, such as slip and fall, sport injury, etc.

  4. Weight Management TCM - The advantage of choosing TCM for weight management is personalized care plan.

The treatments allow the body to restore homeostasis, metabolize excessive fat, remove edema, and restore health. It can be done with a combination of  herbal medicine, acupuncture, TuiNa, and ear acupuncture.

  5. Pain Management TCM - Pain is one of the most common complaints of our patients - most of the time, pain is a natural phenomenon which has a good function, which is to protect and warn us from aggravation.

Pain signals danger and alerts us that something needs to be done immediately to avoid damage. Pain is a subjective first-person experience and everybody’s perception and tolerance to pain is different.

However, acute or chronic pain can all have many negative consequences. It affects sleep quality, emotional health, libido and overall quality of life. Most chronic pain worsens over time, and eventually weighs on the body, not to mention all the medical expenses and reduction in productivity and may even lead to depression.

  6. Aftercare TCM - Yellow Emperor’s Inner Cannon states that the best physician provides preventive care; the mediocre catches illness at its start; the worse treats diseases.

TCM emphasizes preventive care and strives to facilitate one’s optimal health. Not only does it take the whole person into consideration, it also analyzes many other environmental and social factors, such as weather, emotion and sleep-wake cycle.

Three subcategories of preventative Aftercare TCM include: Suboptimal Health, Puberty and Post-partum (post pregnancy & delivery) health

our 3 key tried-and-tested tcm treatments

1) Chinese Herbal Medicine

tcm-chinese-herbal-medicine

Everyone has a unique body constitution, due to

  1. genetics / hereditary traits
  2. environmental factors and
  3. lifestyle habits

Traditional Chinese Medicine practice in Singapore takes into account your body constitution and targets the root cause to address your symptoms ie going upstream rather than only focusing on downstream symptoms management.

We aim to help you regain internal balance and strengthen your body’s resistance to diseases through herbal medicine prescriptions, which can consist of sachets of purified concentrated herbal granules, or come in pill or capsule form.

Taking them is so much more convenient nowadays, no need to brew them for hours and hours like in the past. Now is just to dissolve the herbal granules in hot water and drinking it; OR taking the TCM pills and capsules with a glass of warm water.

Our physicians prescribe herbal medications to treat various health issues including:

  • Fertility
  • Skin conditions
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Gastrointestinal disorders
  • Endocrine diseases
  • Neurological conditions
  • Stroke rehabilitation
  • Sub-health

2) Acupuncture

acupuncture-tcm-benefits

Acupuncture is the art and science of inserting thin, sterile needles into very specific target locations and meridians located all over your body to stimulate specific acupoints.

It is based on the TCM concept that energy, or Qi, circulates throughout our body along energy pathways called meridians.  Each meridian is linked to a specific organ system and has important stimulation points situated along it, called acupoints.

For people who are healthy, their Qi flows smoothly along the meridians, and energy is well-dispersed throughout the channels.

Energy flow may be disrupted by a variety of pathogenic (disease-causing) factors, such as wind, cold or dampness. This causes the energy flow to be imbalanced within the body, and pain or symptoms will naturally arise.

Acupuncture restores your internal energy balance and activates your body’s natural ability to heal.

Acupuncture can be used to treat the following conditions:

  • Pain management
  • Sports injuries
  • Fertility enhancement
  • Men’s and women’s health issues
  • Stroke rehabilitation
  • Gastrointestinal disorders
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Neurological disorders

It can also be used for:

  • Facial rejuvenation
  • Weight management
  • Insomnia, fatigue, poor memory and depression

3) Cupping

tcm-cupping

Cupping is a treatment method that is used to:

  • Relieve myofascial tension, neck, shoulder and backaches
  • Dispel toxins and promote Qi-Blood circulation to aid in the treatment of a variety of conditions ranging from acne, cough to weight-loss
  • Relieve stress and improve general well-being

It involves applying suction to affected areas or acupoints using special cups made of glass or plastic. This suction loosens the soft tissue and increases microcirculation in the area.

Depending on your condition, different cupping techniques may be used:

  1. Stationary cupping: Cups are placed on your body for five to ten minutes
  2. Flash cupping: Cups are quickly placed and removed from the body
  3. Glide cupping: Lubricant is applied to allow cups to glide back and forth on the skin painlessly

Cupping therapy is often complemented with Chinese herbal medication or acupuncture.

tcm for total health and wellness

More and more individuals including parents are exploring and embracing TCM as a complement to the usual conventional Western medicine. The main reason why is because of TCM's holistic nature, which emphasises a lot on total wellness, which includes mind and body healing; as well as TCM's aim to prevent disease, increase immunity and improve quality of life.

What's more TCM is natural with minimal side effects, plus it aims to treat the root causes of disease, conditions and discomfort. Our TCM physician is bilingual (speaks English, Mandarin as well as dialects).

We pay particular attention to details, even twins may not necessarily get the same type of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatments or herbs or dosages - because everyone's body, constitution etc is different at different stages of disease, age and life.

That being said, TCM isn't always the answer, especially with acute conditions such as high fever, vomiting, convulsions, fractures - these kinds of acute issues need to be quickly treated at hospitals.

The Right TCM Partner Provider

As TCM becomes more and more widely accepted as a form of treatment in the world, authorities are taking steps to regulate TCM practitioners - this is good because this provides a layer of safety and starting point as to who patients can choose to trust with their health and wellness.

Our TCM physicians are regulated and licensed by Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board (TCMB) which is a branch managed by Ministry of Health.

Of course good lifestyle and nutritional habits need to be practiced consistently, and this includes getting enough sleep, having moderate exposure to cold weather to improve natural resistance, getting moderate sun exposure to improve yang qi, eating nutritious food and eating less of non-nutritional food - all of which work together with regular TCM treatments and management for building layers and layers of natural health protection.

History of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM; simplified Chinese: 中医; traditional Chinese: 中醫; pinyin: zhōng yī; literally “Chinese medicine”) is a broad range of medicine practices sharing common concepts which have been developed in China and are based on a tradition of more than 2,000 years, including

  • various forms of herbal medicine
  • acupuncture
  • massage (Tui na)
  • exercise (qigong) and
  • dietary therapy

The doctrines of Chinese medicine are rooted in books such as the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon and the Treatise on Cold Damage, as well as in cosmological notions like yin-yang and the five phases.

Starting in the 1950s, these precepts were standardized in the People’s Republic of China, including attempts to integrate them with modern notions of anatomy and pathology.
